MOBILE GENOMES

'We investigate the patterns and mechanisms of genomic variation in disease'

Cancer Virome Project

It is well known that cancer is the most common genetic disease. However, it can be surprising that it has been estimated that viruses are the cause of about 10-15% of all cancers worldwide. Despite that fact, only 7 cancer-related viruses were described so far. Given that numbers, it seems that there are still a lot of interactions between viruses and cancer cells that we were not able to spot until now.

Therefore, the aim of these research line is to elucidate the relationship between viruses and tumorigenesis, paying special attention to viral integration.
